Hot off the press

West Ham's Anton Ferdinand on his way to Sunderland?

Roy Keane continues to build his squad in the North East and he is now casting his eyes over talented West Ham central defender Anton Ferdinand.

West Ham United yesterday confirmed they have accepted an £8m bid from Sunderland for Anton Ferdinand but Roy Keane knows that persuading the central defender to move to Wearside may prove difficult.

Sunderland's manager - who is able to offer transfer targets extremely lucrative salaries - has turned his attentions to Ferdinand after Sir Alex Ferguson's refusal to sell or loan him Jonny Evans from Manchester United and Younes Kaboul's decision to leave Tottenham Hotspur for Portsmouth rather than Wearside. (The Guardian)

Should West Ham be looking to get rid of someone with Ferdinand’ ability? Or his effect on team morale and behaviour negative enough that Hammers boss Alan Curbishley would be glad to get rid?

With the bid accepted, Ferdinand knows he is expendable at his current club so would Sunderland be the right move? Will the strict disciplinarian Roy Keane be just the right manager for him to control his behaviour off the field?
