Hot off the press

 Has Liverpool's Benetiz shortchanged Capello?

After Wednesday's last gasp win over Standard Liege, it emerged Steven Gerrard would all of a sudden be unable for both of England's upcoming world qualifiers. It was reported he would require groin surgery, despite playing in that match during mid-week, and would miss both matches against Belarus and Croatia, but would be back fit in time with Liverpool's clash with Manchester United after the international break. Manchester United manager Sir Alex has also been upto his old tricks again, claiming Owen Hargreaves will not be available, but will play in tonight's Super Cup tie against Zenit St Petersburgh.

"According to Benitez, "He had a problem for the first game with Liege, and also when he went away to play for England in their friendly last week against the Czech Republic." Yet, by selecting Gerrard for the match, it is apparent that Capello had no inkling that the player was struggling or would require an operation. Furthermore, The Times discloses that when Capello met with reporters from the Sunday newspapers on Wednesday, 'he answered a significant number of questions about Gerrard's role, all from the perspective that he would be playing.' 'Had Capello known that there was a problem,' the newspaper concludes, 'he would surely have mentioned it then.'" (football365.com)

What is going on with the injury situation; are you one of those who believe there is a conspiracy in circulation, a kind of plot by the clubs to keep their players fresh for their own matches? Should it be upto the clubs to decide whether the players are fit or not, or should the England physio team be able to make their own judgements? Do you think it is the players that don't want to play for their country? After all, Gerrard gives his heart and soul for Liverpool, but is somewhat lacking with a white shirt on his chest. How can you expect Fabio Capello to build a squad without his best players and with such late withdrawals? WHat do you make of the situation? Is there something going on that we don't know about? Discuss.

You need to think before you write. Why would he 'select' a date for an operation when it means missing 2 of Liverpool's toughest games this season...against Villa away and Man Utd? Doh!

You need to look in the mirror tomorrow morning and accept the fact that you are an idiot. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. To even suggest that there is something mysterious about it all is ludacrous. If you are english you are a shame to this nation. You monkey.

What a ridiculous article. Are you suggesting that Gerrard is just pretending to need surgery to avoid playing for England?

Of course if he needs an operation then he is going to have it when he misses as few of the club that pays his wages games. Liverpool would be mad to say "go and play for England and we'll do the op when you come back even though it means you will miss several more Liverpool games". i think you need to get a grip on reality.

Nothing sinister going on with Gerrard nor Rafa! Why would you be a suspicious person? Are you projecting onto them how you would be?
