Hot off the press

 Should Arsenal drop Adebayor?

As Arsenal look to quash fears of a lack of intent towards winning the Premier League, it is vital that Wenger takes a view as to who is physically fit enough, and who is hungry enough to impress as Arsenal travel to the North for what is expected to be a tough fixture.
Whilst Adebayor did score two goals and had a decent performance last night, there were still undoubted signs that his commitment levels are no where near up to scratch. He used to be the Flamini of forwards whose workrate was astounding, remember him in the AC Milan tie last year? An unstoppable force who never stopped working for the team and running after every ball, at every defender, and even tracking back. This meant that whilst he could occasionally be faulted on technical ability, and certainly on finishing, he justified every single start he made simply by putting in 100% every time.

Unfortunately what has happened over the Summer has meant that he now thinks he is better than he is. Reckoning as he no doubt does that he is the best striker in the world at the moment (forgetting as he would, the list of strikers who surpass him in every aspect of a footballer’s game), he hasn’t been putting in the same amount of effort. And it has been showing in Arsenal’s performances. Van Persie was never a player who worked hard for the team, its not his game. He is a player who is so unquestionably talented that he makes things happen from absolutely nowhere and changes a game in an instant. For that, and only for that, he justifies his place in the starting XI. However, Adebayor just looks like he cant be bothered anymore as he strolls down the wing of the pitch with absolutely no desire to chase, or receive the ball. Of course there is no doubting that he is capable; a tall powerful striker like him is influential to Arsenal, but then again, isn’t that precisely what Bendtner is?

Bendtner has been proving what he is worth. Committing himself in the media to Arsenal, and impressing any time he is given the chance, he has proven to be a shrewd signing, and the loan at Birmingham has clearly only helped to develop him much faster than would normally be expected. His workrate is top notch at the moment and he is more than pleased to pass the ball now to his team mates, having shaken off some of that over arrogance that hindered some of his performances. So should he be given the chance to start alongside RVP on Saturday?

What do you think? Would Van Persie and Bendtner work? Is this exactly what Adebayor needs so he has a kick up his back side to get him into gear? Would this tactic even work, or would Adebayor just demand a transfer and give up all together? What are your opinions on Adebayor since the transfer window debaucle?

You forgot to say that in caps lock because it would have given your points extra credibility.

by the way, i dare to say this Arsenal squad will never win the premier league if Ade is on the main striker position.

for most of time those who would say others don't know football are always those who really don't know football at all haa. AdeBADyor is a player who always has bad timing headers and doesn't know how to kick the ball well, as you can see his shots are always like shits haa. the thing is if Arsenal won't drop him sometimes then he will definitely cause Arsenal a lot. drop him or there's only good luck Arsenal can count on. sigh..

I must agree with the writer of this blog. Adebayor is a good player but Arsenal is in trouble in a long run if Ade and RvP keeps playing together. Ade is not a good finisher... his goal record of last season might be good but has anybody count how many changes he has blown away? Ade is not a clinical finisher. Then again RvP has his moments but can you count on him to deliver?

What i have seen in pre-season and at the beginning of the season, the partnership of Vela and Bendtner looks far more exciting as the partnership of Ade and RvP.

Droping Ade is not a good idea, but i Eboue need to be coming in not starting.finally Ade is good.

Van -persie scored a brace true, but each time arsenal play i always notice adebayor more than other strikers. He is always willing to get the ball-and unlike last season- is more likely to attack the fullbacks given room for clichy to get in.Sometimes he cuts inwards to provide space for Nasri and cesc. Now my question, When last did Van-persie or Bendtner do that?Adebayors link up play is much better than the other strikers, who tend to be finishers. That is why you will always see him play.He is more like Henry in link-up play and assists than the other strikers.Sadly he lacks the Legends finishing-but he may score as much.Secondly, he adds the areal threat that only bedtner comes close to matching!a poor second at that. There is a 65% chance that if you hit the ball up to him he will get it and give to a team mate.aso,he definitely leads our 'headed goals 'chart, heck his first goal was with his head.He needs better delivery from the wings, sagna and clichy are not good crossers of the ball sadly.I understand he is poor where off-sides are concerned, but that is wengers job.

They say that good advice is often confusing but expirience is the best teacher i would advise not to drop ade but it looks like good things ade does are easily forgotten, right now we need to focus on keeping eboue on the bench

ian, some people fail to see how important Adebayor is to the team. they cannot recognise the hard work he puts in to create the space for the likes of van persie, Walcott and Fabregas to work in. And he scores goals! They look at it and think: chance - miss - shit - remember he wanted a payrise - sell him. Football is not that simple.

Look at his record - 114 games, 52 goals, 16 assists.

That is fucking incredible for a player like Adebayor who basically runs around all game for the sake of his team.

People like you jus need to stop with these pointless articles. Are you actually that bored. If you knew anything about football you would be able to see that although his earlier hurrying of defenders didn't actually pay much dividens. He is able to now (probably under arsene wengers instructions) focus his energy on making telling runs or dropping back to link up play. Also if you think bendtner has a better work rate than ade, you must be on crack. Good day sir

Drop him....!! hes a joke... can someone show him what the offside rule is.... cant believe the amount of shots we create in a game, how many sitters we miss..... if we swapped michael owen for money-grab-or... we would be winning 10 nil every game... can believe money-grab-or thinks hes a good striker just cause it takes him ten shots to score a single goal... how many chances does he need.... sell him and buy someone who can score... or just start playing vela.... he was a different class when he came on last night

by DAVE on 2008-10-01 10:22:26

No. Why would you drop your most important player other than Fabregas? Stupid idea. Witch hunt? Scapegoat? Me thinks.
