Hot off the press

The End of Manchester United Paul Scholes?

Paul Scholes has been the mainstay of the Manchester United midfield for many years, providing an invaluable service as part of United's barnstorming success throughout the late 90s and 00s. He has overcome illness and injury to remain at the top of his game, and arguably, one of the best midfielders ever to grace the Premier League. However, with the clock against him, this latest set back could prove fatal:

"Manchester United's Paul Scholes will be out for 10 weeks after suffering medial knee ligament damage in the Champions League win against Aalborg. The 33-year-old midfielder was stretchered off after just 16 minutes of United's 3-0 victory in Denmark. He may now miss 16 games, including those against Arsenal and Manchester City, and Scholes could be out until the visit to Tottenham on 13 December." (BBC Sport)

In light of this body blow, what we want to know if Paul Scholes can recover and return to the top of his game? Or is the ginger haired maestro’s number up? Was that his last game in the famous red shirt, or will he rise again, like he has done in the past? How will United cope without the 33-year-old? What qualities does he bring to the side, and will he absence mean United's patchy start to the season continued?

Play Rooney as the head of the midfield diamond off Bebatov and Tevez or Manucho or Wellbeck -- and all will be well
