Hot off the press

Will Everton move into the 21st Centaury?

A public inquiry into a £400 million scheme to build a retail park and new stadium for Everton in Kirkby begins today. Everton acting CEO Robert Elstone said, “The reality is that, if this doesn't go ahead, then in five years time we will still be at Goodison. And that could be the case for 10, 20, 30 years. And if that is the case and the Premier League continues to develop in the way it has been doing, then that presents a really challenging future for this football club.

“Everton are 33 per cent behind the average Premier League club in terms of income. Five years ago, it was 19 per cent behind.

“Arsenal earn £3million per home game, and we earn £800,000. Over 19 games, we're almost £40 million worse off.

But many fans have objected to the move away from Goodison Park and are upset at the prospect of having to travel to the borough of Knowsley, outside the Liverpool city boundary.

So Everton fans: Which side of the border do you sit? Are you happy with the current set up at Goodison Park, even if it means your future is somewhat limited or do you want to move with the game and compete with the big boys even if it means Kirby here you come?
