Hot off the press

Will it be out with Chelsea and Liverpool stars and in with the new breed from Aston Villa, West Ham, Portsmouth, Middlesbrough and Manchester City?

Last night’s 2-1 victory over Germany gave us all hope. With an injury list as long as your arm Fabio Capello had to make some drastic decisions. The old faithful of Rio Ferdinand, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and Wayne Rooney were all on the crocks list. David Beckham was out of favour not having played for the past three weeks and England's young star Theo Walcott had to pull out at the last minute.

Interest in the game was not at its normal feavor pitch with most peole expecting England to get a real right tanking from the Germans. A reversal of that 5-1 score England dished out two years ago in Germany.

Who could have dared writing the script for this game? On came the the make-shift team and the rest is history. Glen Johnson, Matthew Upson, Michael Carrick, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Gabriel Agbonlahor and Stewart Downing all played as though they belonged in the team. The play was quick, the passing imacculate, the energy levels high and the defence solid.

Capello has now been given some selection problems ahead of the planned friendly in Spain next February. If all the players were fit who would be in your next England line up? Come on name your TEAM.

My team would have consisted of two premier league teams playing one another. Scrap these waste of time friendlies. If there is nothing to fill the gap...then give the players a break. The season is long enough without useless games like these
