After his sulk last season, William Gallas has raised the stakes in being an awful captain.

William Gallas is set to be stripped of the Arsenal captaincy after an explosive attack on his players tore the Gunners apart.

Boss Arsene Wenger reacted furiously yesterday after Gallas:

• Claimed Theo Walcott and Robin Van Persie fought at half-time in the 4-4 draw against bitter rivals Spurs.
• Revealed a senior Arsenal player “insults” team-mates during games.
• Insisted the rest of the young team cannot stand the Emi-rat.
• Condemned Wenger’s youngsters for not being brave enough.

Gallas’ claim that there is a rat in the Arsenal dressing room will stun Wenger more than anything else.

Gallas said: “As captain, players come up to you and talk to you about a player, complaining about him. And then, during the match, you speak to this player and the player in question insults us. There comes a time when we can no longer comprehend how this can happen. I am trying to defend myself without giving names. Otherwise I’m taking it all. It’s very frustrating. I’m 31, the player is six years younger than me. There are things that can’t be said and can’t be tolerated.”

Gallas also revealed how he broke up a dressing-room fight between Walcott and Van Persie at the break against Spurs. (The Sun)

He has a book out soon and this is obviously his motivation, meaning he has put his wallet before his club. How can you function as a captain when you reveal secrets of the dressing room just to sell a book? No one needed to know about bust ups or fights, but by revealing them Gallas has shown he is not suitable to be captain.

Surely Arsene Wenger must now take action against Gallas? Who should be captain instead?
