William Gallas wouldn't have been everybody's choice as captain of Arsenal and now it seems he'll be stripped of the armband.

It's an unwritten rule in football, you don't slag off your team mates in public, and certainly not in a book while you're still playing at the football club.

That's exactly what William Gallas has done, with knobs on, and it would be astounding if he wasn't only stripped of the captaincy but also sold by the Gunners in the January transfer window.

Arsene Wenger has always come across as a decent bloke and after the week he's just had, losing at home to Villa and effectively seeing his side's title hopes go up in smoke, plus the lengthy lay off facing Theo Walcott, the last thing he needed was such a bomb shell from his captain.

There is no doubting that Gallas is not the player he was at Chelsea, and last season's antics at Birmingham lead many to question whether he had what it takes to be a leader of men, young men at that.

When you think of the captains Arsenal have had down the years, it's hard to believe that such an experienced player at such a high profile club would write such things about his team mates and open the lid on what I am sure are regular occurrences at most clubs, most days of the week.

I wonder if many of the Arsenal fans heading to Eastlands tomorrow will want or expect to see Gallas in the team, whether they will slag off their own player or support him.
