Newcastle, Aston Villa and Manchester City defy the laws of Possession?

It has to be said that usually the team that controls the game by dominating possession should win. This weekend proved the theory wrong. Newcastle gave up 70% possession in the game against Chelsea and came away with a goalless draw. Man City gave up 66% possession and came away with an emphatic 3-0 win against Arsenal. Aston Villa ground out a goalless draw even after giving up 62% possession to Man U.

These were hard fought games against three of the big clubs. With a strike force of international players none of these three top Four clubs could penetrate the packed mid field that their opposition employed.

So what is going wrong with the tactics of these dominating sides? Why do you think they cannot find a way to open up the defence? Only seen the City game, but Arsenal never looked like doing anything... Despite all their possession City had the same number of corners, more goal attempts, nearly double the number of shots on targets (9-5), a good goal dis-allowed for off-side, debatable penalty appeal waved away, one cleared off the line etc... on another day city could have won by more (If somebody could explain the offside rule to Benjani we could have had a few more chances). Ya can have all the possession in the world but it's goals that count and thankfully we got three and conceded none. Bentdner could have been there all day and wouldn't have scored so after that yer relying on denilson and diaby... i don't think so...

Can only speak for Arsenal but for all their possession they never looked like scoring.

Man City were far more dynamic with their limited possession and were worthy of their win despite what the ungracious Wenger thinks!
