Hot off the press

 Arsenal's Gallas has some support

It seem outrageous that in any line of work you can come out and publicly disgrace your boss, company, and co – workers but in the glamorous world of football where an apology will suffice, that's exactly what William Gallas, Arsenal's captain has done. The main problem is that Arsenal have little choice; Toure is injured, Djourou isn't yet good enough and Silvestre isn't a solid enough stand in. With Sagna out too it seems that unless Gallas apologises, the Gunners are in as much trouble as he is. It's a very unfortunate situation because the team are at a particularly frail moment whereby punishing him too strongly will be detrimental to the club, having said that it is unlikely that his antics will be forgotten when the team comes back round to full strength.

Gallas has until 2011 on his 80 grand a week contract which means that if he doesn't apologise and is given the shove, he risks losing £10 million. I should think that for that amount of money, he might well be able to find the courage to just say a simple sorry, though how long it will take the other members of Arsenal's mediocre and nervous team to forgive him is another matter.

It appears he is more popular in France than in Arsenal and his pal Florent Malouda has come out and said:

"I'm still supporting William.

"But he has to be responsible for what he said.

"Of course I hope he stays. For me you don't have to ask this question because he is still a good player, and you have to think what he brings to English football.

"It's not fair, I think, to forget everything just because he said one thing."

Perhaps Malouda would feel differently if he was at Arsenal, or Gallas the captain of Chelsea, but either way he has a fair point. The other fact is that perhaps a lot of this is just blown up in the media and completely overstated, though given Gallas' past record on tact, I shouldn't think this likely. What do fans think about him being given one more chance?
