Hot off the press

Arsenal's Cesc pledges future and apologises to Barca and Real.

In a move that some people will commend and others will feel is foolish, Wenger has handed the captain's armband to Cesc Fabregas so that he might be convinced to stay. Those on the "don't do it" camp will suggest that Fabregas is too young to have the responsibility of being a team captain for a "top 4" club, and yet on the other hand, Arsenal have been shown what experience gets you; emotional, loud mouthed, stupidity with absolutely no sign of restraint. Gallas was always a fighter and took that attitude and translated it onto the pitch, and yet he was still privy to the occasional nervous breakdown, and at times that also transcribed onto the pitch.

Fabregas is massively spikey; let's not forget the time he spat in Ballack's face, or hit Frank Lampard. He is scared of no one, knows his skill, and is playing his best when high on confidence. Then there is also the simple fact of his average performances of late… he has had more pressure on him than Gallas to perform, and yet if you look at how many goals Arsenal have let in this season you will find that it is not really the midfield's fault that they are having such a lousy start to the campaign.

He is still being hindered by Denilson next to him, and yet until January the thought of being the club's youngest ever captain should see him perform better and hopefully the team around him too shall exemplify the resurgence necessary and indicative of why Wenger chose him to lead the side. Torres was captain of his club at 21 too, and look what that did for him (aside from him leaving, let's ignore that fact).

Whilst giving the captaincy to someone so young might seem crazy, so was giving it to Gallas just to encourage him to play; he has always had a terrible attitude, something that Fabregas cannot be faulted for, and although 21 he has now had about 5 years in the first team, and is more experienced than most Premier League 25 year old captains.

What do fans think about the appointment? Is it merely a cover up in a desperate attempt to stop Fabregas leaving, or is he genuinely worth the armband?

let's be fair even the most even tempered and fair minded player must be sorely tempted to spit in Ballack's smug face, let alone give Lampard a slap, so that's two pluses for Fabregas for starters!

What a stupid article? And a misleading headline! You said he apologizes to Barca and Madrid?? Why the hell would he do that! Oh, sorry for being Arsenal captain... bollocks, what a load of shite, find something better to make attempts at being journalistic you tosser.

I would like to think that Fabregas will stay, he's said it over and over again that he's not going anywhere, so we fans have to believe,
