Hot off the press

England Squad for 2010 - Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Arsenal and more

The last few England games have revitalised my interest in the national team, we do now seem to have a proper manager who knows what he is doing, and is showing some leadership and has respect of the players.

The absence of some players also has made selection for the next match and beyond interesting as Wright-Phillips, Agbanlahor & Downing all looked very much at home in the England team.

This got me thinking on what the squad for World Cup 2010 could look like, I may look very silly when I read this back in 18 months time, as so much can change in that time and you couldn’t have predicted Walcott’s inclusion last time 18 months out!

Goalkeepers

Robinson
Kirkland
Foster

Defenders

Johnson
Richards
Cole
Terry
Ferdinand
Davies
Woodgate

Midfield

Wright-Phillips
Cole
Gerrard
Lampard
Barry
Carrick
Downing
Lennon

Strikers

Rooney
Walcott
Agbanlahor
Young
Defoe

The goalkeeping position is the one that is hardest to call, I honestly don’t believe we can make real progress with James in goal, but the competition is not the strongest, I really hope that Foster gets a chance at Manchester United and comes to the fore in 2009/10.

Guys, Ash Young's in there, he's just listed as a striker on account of being such a legend...

Agree with the above poster. No Joe Hart? Jell I'll take Scott Carson over Robinson. Did you really pick Woodgate over Wheater? and Downing? Even Jack Wilshere looks alot better right now than Downing does
