Hot off the press

Liverpool delight as Benitez pledges future again, turning down Madrid for 3rd time.

Rafa Benitez has been instrumental at Liverpool having won them the FA Cup, and the Champions League. He is considered an absolute hero at Liverpool and although you could make the argument that Madrid are a more prestigious and global club, Liverpool remain one of the most successful teams in Europe ever, and furthermore their power to acquire whoever they choose means that technically there is little difference between them and Madrid. Add to that the fact that Liverpool are considered to have the best fans in the world, and that Anfield is considered to be a wholly passionate ground, the likes of which you cant find at any other club on earth and you can see why Benitez is turning down his desire to manage in his homeland, despite the size of the task on offer.

The new deal he is expected to sign will keep him at Merseyside until 2012, and both he and the owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett are confident of a deal being struck by Christmas. This will be a huge boost to the team as it surely displays just how much confidence he has in the ability within his team.

Interestingly a lot of the desperations to tie him down, along with the likes of Gerrard and Torres have to do with the fact that the owners who are in £350 million debt want to sell the club but can only realistically do so if they have their strongest parts in tact; the manager and central players.

But what do fans think about the selling of the club, and the encouragement shown by Benitez wanting to stay, especially as he was being pushed out the door only a year ago! Do fans love him, or would you welcome him attempting Madrid, and Liverpool taking in a manager that could actually win them the league?
