Hot off the press

Beating Chelsea, do Arsenal still have a shot at the Title, or is it too little, too late?

It's the same old thing as many a season. When Arsenal need to they pull the rabbit out the hat, I remember a couple of seasons ago where they beat United home and away, but still slipped up those stupid easy to win games. Then lets not forget last season where they beat Chelsea, Liverpool and drew with United, but still slipped up against the lesser teams including relegated Birmingham for example. This season Arsenal have shown their frailties and their mettle; they lost to Stoke, Fulham, Hull, Man City, and Aston Villa, but they have beaten both Chelsea away and United at home. Both wins were the kind that you don't expect to see from Arsenal, hard fought, passionate and confident. They fought like crazy to win such games, and yet when lesser opposition is a concern they just let themselves go, confident in their ability to win.

With Liverpool to play on the 19th December, the question really is whether a win there might genuinely put them back in the race. Currently they are 7 points adrift, however saying that they have played one game more than both Chelsea and Liverpool, and that game could be vital in sneaking away from the Gunners, who are playing a tough game of catch up. The other problem as all fans will acknowledge is that a win against Chelsea away will put it further into Wenger's head that he need not buy anyone in January. This is absurd, if Arsenal are to win the League they must buy a defensive midfielder who is a hard grafter like Flamini. For all his confidence, ability, skill and passion, Denilson is not ready to partner the captain in central midfield, and it has cost his team many a point.

The fact is though that if Arsenal do beat the top 3 teams home and away this season (a very hard task, but more likely than beating Hull home and away it seems!) then they will have accumulated 18 points, that would create at least a 6 point gain towards the top that the other competitors wont have earned, and this might make up for some of the failings from previous performances. Having said that, Adebayor has looked terrible of late and done nothing worthy of impressing, the goals have generally been coming from Van Persie (on 7 goals) and Nasri, or the centre backs. As a striker, if Arsenal are to perform, the onus is on Adebayor, he was so instrumental to their success last season, its vital he does the same this season and picks up some goal scoring form.

But what do football fans think? Can Arsenal genuinely give the title a shot anymore, or is it another case of proving how much heart, and quality they have but still not enough to be consistent and win the League, again? Will they win any silverwear at all?

No chance arsenal. You dont have enough men to go out there and last the season.
