Hot off the press

Will Wenger raid West Ham and bring Upson back to Arsenal?

Arsene Wenger needs to act quickly or he could be caught short by the departure of William Gallas. There has been a cloud of uncertainty over the future of the Arsenal ex-captain. After being so unceremoniously stripped of the captain’s arm band for committing the cardinal sin of turning on his team members and going public with the dressing room discussions, Gallas must be seriously looking at a January departure.

Before this happens Arsenal must be out scouting for a replacement to take over this vital position. Senderos will still be on loan in Italy so Wenger cannot wait for his return.

West Ham’s Mathew Upson has been rumoured to be on Wenger’s target list. We all know that cash-strapped West Ham could do with a lucrative sale.

Upson first joined Arsenal in 1997 and made 56 appearances for the side before finally being sold to Birmingham City in 2003. He is now at West Ham and at the top of his game. England boss Fabio Capello has now included Upson in the England senior team and he should play a part in the England’s World Cup campaign in 2010.

Upson certainly has all the credentials, but will Wenger ever take back one of his cast offs?

Arsenal fans: Do you think Mathew Upson would be the right choice to replace Gallas, or do you think that once a player has left the club Wenger would not have him back?
