Hot off the press

Rafa Benitez Running out of Patience with Liverpool Striker

It looks like the poor start to the season for expensive new Liverpool signing Robbie Keane may well cost him his place in the Liverpool starting line up for todays fixture against Blackburn.

The Reds boss is reportedly very disappointed with Keane’s performances thus far and is expected to play either Dirk Kuyt or Ryan Babel upfront as Liverpool go looking for a win that would extend their stay at the top of the Premier League table.

In fairness to Keane it was obvious he was brought in to the club to act as a foil for Fernando Torres. The idea was to give Liverpool the option to switch to a more traditional 442 formation, from the 4231 they often played at the tail end of last season. Unfortunately for Keane and for Liverpool, Torres has been injured for much of this season and has only been able to partner Keane upfront for less than a handful of matches. Playing upfront on his own was never Keane’s best position. Judgement should be reserved until Torres is back and both players get the chance to form a partnership, one that could take the premier league by storm.
