Hot off the press

Real Madrid to beat Liverpool by three clear goals. Seriously?

Former Spurs crackpot Juande Ramos has set his side an extremely ambitious target of slotting Liverpool all over the show tonight. Despite being an extremely ordinary team which is dependent on Robben (Robben reliant as Sid Lowe of The Guardian humorously punned on) he has said he wants to see his team go out and secure such an advantage to make life easier come the return leg at Anfield.

"I am looking for a three-goal advantage because that could be decisive and would make going to Anfield that much easier." (Football365)

Is it just me or is this plain silly? Given Liverpool's recent record in European, a 1-0 win would be hard enough. In fact, if Gerrard is fit I fully expect Liverpool to come away with a goal advantage themselves or at least a score draw to make them clear favourites to progress. Alex Ferguson pointed it out himself saying that Real Madrid were too slow to win the thing and that'll be the case against Liverpool. The only way Ramos could predict such an emphatic lead to take to Merseyside would be if he saw Benitez's teamsheet...and it featured Dossena and Lucas. Am I wrong in expecting such an easy ride for Liverpool? Ok so they may not have been bang in form but their defeat to Everton in the cup was their first in a long while. They're certainly drawing too many but this shows they are still hard to beat. Rafa will know Real inside out and secure a comfortable passage through to the quarter finals for the reds. Predictions?

I'm thinking this is a very good point mate. I was almost laughing when i read this. hopefully they will be over confident and we can exploit this if they start pushing up too much. We all know how good Torres is against a high defensive line, and with Xabi back in the team he'll be looking for those quick, killer passes to find el nino. prediction for me is 1-1.
