Hot off the press

Forget Messi and Ronaldo, aren’t Gerrard and Iniesta the world’s best?

All we’ve been reading about these past few weeks is Messi this, Ronaldo that. The seemingly never ending debate on which player is the best has granted, been a whole load of fun, yet for me it’s also been tiresome in equal measure.

There can be no doubt that Lionel Messi won his individual battle with Cristiano Ronaldo in Rome but does that really make him the world’s greatest footballer?

My inclination is that Ronaldo and Messi are the two most ‘dangerous’ players on the planet. One with his power and technique is the perfect Premier League specimen, the other with his craft and skill, the epitome of Spanish football at its best. They are the ultimate match winners. But are they the best?

Personally, I think not.

For all their skill, speed and trickery both superstars have areas of their game that remain distinctly average. All-round footballers they are not.

I’d like to think that the world’s best player should excel in almost every way. They should be complete. They should be the most influential player on the pitch, almost every time they step onto the grass.

With that in mind, can you think of two players who can top Steven Gerrard and Andres Iniesta? They have power, pace, skill, vision, endeavour, defensive nous, leadership, craft, goals, creativity, temperament….they have the lot.

I nominate Iniesta as the best player in the world as of today. Who gets your vote?

if not messie who do u think is qualified for it,is it ronaldo or gerrard?
if you view this issue critically you will discover that both of them have different mode of playing, you can\\\'t compare the act of display of messie to that of ronaldo, the latter is more potent.
and i think if not the whole world 70% of the people would like to rate messie as the world greatest just as i am optimistic that he is the right person and 100% fit for it.

Valid reasoning, and some of the points made here echo what I wrote many weeks ago in my article 'Defining the World's Best' under the blog of 'sukhi'.
I for one, perhaps slightly bias, feel that Gerrard for a few years now has been the best footballer in the world, pound for pound. Remember, 'impact' is a key word. Within the criticism of Liverpool being a 'one-man' team should have risen the fact which makes him the 'best'.
However, last year Waah-naldo, was undoubtedly the most outstanding achiever in world football - statistically and palpably.

Iniesta showed yesterday why Liverpool needs Silva & not Tevez.Silva is very similar to Iniesta & can be even better.
One more thing I think that Iniesta,Gerrard,Xabi & Alonso are the most technically aware footballers.

This group of 4 are way above the rest. But I have to say that Messi weaves his magic week after week in Spain and cannot be excluded from the worlds best trio along with Gerrard and Iniesta. Ronadlo is quick has great control but is not as creative.
