Owen Vows to Manchester United’s Sir Alex Ferguson: I Will Repay Your Faith in Goals

Michael Owen completed his shock move to Manchester United yesterday and immediately vowed to repay the faith shown in him in goals.

Alex Ferguson is in need of offensive reinforcements after losing Carlos Tevez and Cristiano Ronaldo, but surely no United fans would have expected that man to be the ex-Liverpool, Real Madrid and Newcastle striker Michael Owen.

Owen admitted the move had come ‘out of the blue’ and that he had never imagined moving to Manchester United in his ‘wildest dreams’. Strong words for a player more used to running out at Anfield for Liverpool than their bitter, bitter rivals across the north west at Old Trafford.

Owen acknowledged that there are those with serious doubts about Sir Alex making a move for him, but has promised to do his talking on the pitch.

Whether Manchester United fans take to him remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure: his reception at Anfield this season will be something to look forward to.
